This was the book used in a workshop I took and I was very impressed with the hands-on approach the book takes coupled with plenty of ancillary information covering the range of information needed by design professionals. I've referred to it numerous times since, and am eyeing the InDesign and Illustrator books to round out my CS skills updates.
I have used "The Professional Portfolio" series since CS2. They are the same price as the Classroom in a book but you get so much more in the books published by Against the Clock. If you go to the Against the Clock website you can even see some sample lessons before you buy. All lessons in the book are very well written and are tested thoroughly for "user errors." You will definitely learn a lot by using the books in this series. as far as the books being useful for teachers, the series is the best in my opinion. ATC makes sure they work with instructors and professional designers to design projects that allow students to learn how to create useful projects. There are also "Portfolio Builder Projects" that challenge students to create their own project based on what they learned in the step-by-step tutorials.
I purchased this book used, but they are coded in the back so I couldn't download any of the lessons. I was able to purchase a code off of the books website but if I had known I also had to purchase a code I may have just gotten the book new. Good information to know before purchasing.
